Crowns
Have you ever found yourself favoring one side or the other while chewing? Have you ever felt embarrassed to smile? Or had a sensitivity that just won’t go away? These are just some of the situations where a crown could help improve the durability of a tooth, making it more comfortable to use and improving its appearance.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over one of your existing teeth or a dental implant.

Crown placed over implant
Made to look just like one of your natural teeth, a crown can:
- make your tooth stronger, function better and improve its appearance
- cover a tooth that is decayed, weak, discolored or broken and give it more structural durability
- can change the size and shape of the tooth, increasing its function and improving its looks
- be placed over an implant to restore a space caused by a missing tooth
Crowns can restore your teeth, allowing you to bite more comfortably and smile even wider!

Crown FAQs
Are there different materials used for crowns?
With the advances in modern dentistry there are multiple options available. Typically the materials fall into one of these categories: All porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and all metal crowns. Your DHA dentist will help you decide which is best for you.
What happens during a crown procedure?
The making of a crown usually consist of two appointments. The first is the preparation appointment where the tooth is reduced in size to make room for the new crown material. During the first appointment a temporary crown will be made and placed. An impression will be taken of the tooth or implant and sent to a lab where the final crown will be made.
On the second appointment the temporary crown will then be switched out for the final crown, which will be permanently cemented to your tooth or implant.
