Extractions
If your DHA dentist recommends having a tooth pulled, it may be for one of many reasons. Your dentist may also recommend an extraction when:
- your tooth is broken or decayed
- extra teeth are blocking other teeth from coming in
- severe gum disease is affect the supporting tissues and bone structures
- your tooth is severely decayed or infected
- you need a tooth pulled to prepare for braces (othodontics)
- there's not enough space in your mouth for wisdom teeth
Simple Extraction
A simple extraction is performed on a tooth that is visible in your mouth, usually under local anesthetic, and requires only manipulation of the visual part of the tooth to remove it completely. Your dentist can perform a simple extraction during an ordinary office visit.
Surgical Extraction
A surgical extraction is performed when a tooth is not easily accessed, either because it is broken or not fully erupted. Surgical extractions are performed by an oral surgeon and require greater manipulation of the structures surrounding the tooth to completely remove it.
