Matt Oboikovitz, DMD

Do you participate in any clubs, organizations, or boards in the community? What positions do you hold?

I am a member of the ADA, the WDA and the Greater Dane Dental Society. I also spend time volunteering at the Madison Dental Initiative emergency clinic.

What inspires you to do what you do?

I love helping people feel good about themselves and dispelling some of the myths that people have heard about dentistry. I enjoy making people comfortable and getting them out of pain; sometimes the pain is more emotional than physical. I have worked with many patients with varying degrees of dental phobia, and I absolutely love when they leave my chair saying “that wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be.”

What do you do for fun, hobbies, special interests, etc.?

I really enjoy playing ice hockey. It is something that I have done since I was 5 years old and will hopefully continue to do throughout my life. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis. I am an avid Chicago sports fan dedicated to the Bears and the Blackhawks, although I always support my alma mater, the University of Wisconsin.

Your motto in life:

“It is what it is.” My grandpa used to say this all the time when running into adversity. What it means to me is that there are certain people, events or situations in life that you just have no control over. When you encounter these obstacles, you need to be able to adapt and figure out a way to work with them. I think that this comes into play in many situations as a dentist.

What makes you most proud of DHA?

I think that our commitment to ensuring patient satisfaction is what really sets us apart from other dental groups. I have worked in other jobs where we were just treating “teeth.” At DHA we treat “people.” All of our doctors here work so hard to make sure that every patient leaves happy and satisfied.
