Almost as good as a natural tooth, an implant is the most attractive and longest lasting tooth replacement option.

Implants

Dental implants are considered the closest replacement to natural teeth available today. They are artificial replacements for natural tooth roots. Made from titanium and other materials that are well-suited to the human body, implants attach to the jaw bone and other surrounding tissues to become a solid base for one or more custom artificial replacement teeth, or crowns.

Dental implants have been used for several decades and are a very reliable restoration. Patients of all ages have chosen dental implants to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or to support a partial or a denture. Your DHA dentist will help you decide whether an implant is right for you.

The Root: The First Step to Implants

In the first step, a periodontist or oral surgeon will surgically place the implant into your jaw. The implant will then heal by a process called oseointegration. Healing may take up to a few months and will vary from case to case.

The Crown

Following sufficient healing, the dentist will fabricate a crown, which has the size, shape, and color to blend with your other teeth. The crown will then be placed over the implant and the process is complete.

Implant FAQs

How long does an implant take?

After this, only a few weeks are needed to place a crown and your smile is restored. Your DHA dentist can tell you more specifically how long this procedure will take for you!

Who is a good candidate for dental implant treatment?

You are if you are in good health and have healthy gums and adequate bone to support an implant. Every implant is going to be different and your DHA dentist can provide you further insight into what is right for you.
