Insurance & Billing FAQs

Whether you choose to sign up for a new plan on your own or your employer changes the options available to you, it is extremely important to let us know as soon as possible to ensure timely coverage. While you are ultimately responsible for knowing your benefits and coverage, we’ll do our best to assist you.

DHA does offer third party financing through a company called CareCredit, which is a credit card designed to help pay healthcare bills. Usable at medical and dental offices as well as for your vision, veterinary and other out of pocket expenses from healthcare procedures, CareCredit offers a few different interest free plans. More information is available on the CareCredit website or at any of our locations. Please see the financial coordinator at your Dental Health Associates location if you are interested in signing up.

This can happen for a variety of reasons. At Dental Health Associates of Madison we strive to provide the most accurate estimate based on the information we have about your insurance plan. Sometimes there are waiting periods, or special clauses included in a plan, and sometimes plans change when they rollover into a new benefit year. If your claim has been denied for any reason, call our billing department or your insurance company directly to find out why.

We file most of our claims electronically, meaning they are sent to your insurance company through an electronic secured file. Sometimes smaller insurance companies don’t accept electronic claims, so we print them and mail them out for you. Submitting your claims is done as a courtesy to you, and we strive to ensure each claim is received at your insurance company and processed. If your claim is outstanding for over 30 days, or requires additional information, we will follow up with your insurance carrier.

All plans are different, but the majority of them group dental procedures into categories. The most common ones are:

  • preventative/diagnostic – cleanings, x-rays, exams
  • restorative – fillings
  • major – crowns, bridges, dentures, implants, oral surgery, periodontic and endodontic work

Sometimes the categories can become more specific by grouping things such as oral surgery, periodontics and endodontics into their own categories, or by specifying coverage for only certain types of fillings or crowns.

Most of the time, yes. Most insurance plans have a separate maximum used specifically for orthodontic work, but it is a lifetime maximum, not an annual one that will renew. This means that once you have reached your orthodontic maximum, you will not have coverage for orthodontic work again. Check your benefits information carefully when choosing or using your plan.
