Hygiene Assistant Program
For 1st & 2nd Year Dental Hygiene Students
You’re learning the clinical skills in school. We help you learn how real practice works.
At Dental Health Associates (DHA), our paid Hygiene Assistant position is designed specifically for hygiene students who want to build confidence before graduation — not after. Whether you’re in your first year just getting comfortable, or in your second year starting to think about “what’s next,” this role gives you a head start.
Why Start Before Graduation?
When becoming a new Registered Dental Hygienist the biggest adjustment isn’t scaling — it’s:
- Managing a full schedule
- Understanding patient flow
- Navigating software efficiently
- Working within a team
- Feeling confident in a fast-paced environment
The more familiar you are with these systems before graduation, the smoother your transition into an RDH role will be.
What You’ll Gain as a Hygiene Assistant
- Paid experience while in school
- Flexible scheduling around classes
- Real exposure to busy hygiene days
- Hands-on Denticon familiarity
- Strong relationships with doctors and hygiene teams
- A potential pathway into an RDH position after graduation
You’re not just observing. You’re learning how everything connects — from check-in to chairside.
Your Role as a Hygiene Assistant
This role is structured to support your education — not replace it.
As a Hygiene Assistant at DHA, your role includes:
Supporting hygienists during busy clinic days
- Assisting with patient flow coordination
Observing and understand schedule management
Communicating with patients and team members for effective turnover
This position gives you practical exposure to workflow, time management, and clinical rhythm so your first day as a licensed hygienist feels familiar instead of overwhelming.
Career Path After Graduation
Many of our Hygiene Assistants transition directly into RDH roles after graduation.
When you already understand the workflow, software, and team — your first day as a hygienist feels familiar instead of overwhelming.
If you’re serious about building your hygiene career with confidence, we’d love to connect.
We’ll even help with loan repayment assistance!
Q & A for Hygiene Students
I’m only in my first year. Is it too early?
Not at all. First-year students benefit tremendously from early exposure to real workflow. It builds confidence and makes your clinical rotations feel more familiar.
I’m in my second year and starting to think about jobs. Does this help?
Absolutely. It allows you to build relationships early, understand our culture, and position yourself for future RDH opportunities.
Will this interfere with school?
No. Your education comes first. We build schedules around your availability.
What if I feel inexperienced?
You’re not expected to know everything — that’s the point. This role is designed to grow your comfort level and professionalism before you carry your own schedule.
Is this just helping when the office is busy?
No. This is an intentional student development role. You’ll gain structured exposure to clinical workflow, Denticon, sterilization systems, and patient flow.
What makes DHA different?
We are a locally owned, multi-clinic group practice with strong hygiene teams and established systems.
That means:
- You see how experienced hygienists manage their day
- You learn organized systems — not chaos
- You gain exposure to diverse patient populations
- Leadership is actively invested in hygiene student growth
