Pre-Operative Instructions for Periodontal Procedures and Surgery
Medications Prior to Treatment
Medications such as Aspirin, Coumadin, Plavix, or some blood thinners many need to be stopped prior to surgery, please consult with your physician to determine if you need to modify your medications before your scheduled surgery date.
If you take antibiotic pre-medication, please take it as directed before your surgery. This means that we recommend you take it with food to avoid an upset stomach prior to surgery.
Antibiotics Prior to Treatment
Our Periodontists may prescribe an antibiotic if it is necessary for your procedures. Antibiotics should be taken as directed without missing a dose and until completely gone. If you are currently taking birth control pills, it is possible that antibiotics may interfere with their function. Please consult your physician.
Sedative Treatment
If you elect to use oral sedatives you must have someone drive you to and from the clinic.
