Matthew Lorson, DDS
Dr. Matthew Lorson is originally from Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Colorado College in 1995 and, after a two-year stint of being a swim coach, he attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry graduating in 2001. Following dental school, he completed a General Practice Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He next spent one year working in the Indian Health Service with the Navajo and Southern Ute in Southwest Colorado and New Mexico. Dr. Lorson returned to the Midwest and completed his specialty training in Periodontics at the University of Missouri – Kansas City graduating in 2005. After two years of private practice, Dr. Lorson joined Dental Health Associates in 2008.
As a periodontist, Dr. Lorson specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting bone and gum, replacing lost support with bone and soft tissue grafts, the placement of dental implants and periodontal laser treatment.
Dr. Lorson attends several hours of continuing education every year to provide his patients with the most contemporary periodontal care possible. He provides dental implant placement for single or multiple teeth, to support dentures and implants to replace all teeth or ‘teeth in a day’. His office is complete with a 3D scanner to aid in surgical diagnosis and treatment planning. From this scan, surgical guides can be made for precise implant placement. In addition, temporary crowns can even be made ahead of time to be placed on the implant at the time of implant surgery.
Dr. Lorson also routinely performs gum surgery to correct recession for esthetics and to prevent tooth loss. In addition, he provides gingival recontouring procedures to treat ‘gummy smiles’.
Since 2014, Dr. Lorson has offered laser treatment. The Millenium Nd:YAG laser protocol called “LANAP” is an option that can help patients save their teeth and avoid more painful traditional periodontal surgery. The LANAP laser is the only FDA approved laser with research proving the regeneration of bone. The laser can also be used to treat canker sores, cold sores and sensitivity.
Dr. Lorson has two kids, two dogs, and one wife. He likes to spend his free time with his family getting outside, kayaking, and traveling. Currently, most of his free time is spent officiating his kids’ swim meets.
