Periodontal & Dental Implant Specialists

Periodontists specialize in gum disease treatment, implants, and dental surgeries.

Dental Health Associates offers periodontal services at three of our convenient locations.

Periodontists are dentists best known for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease. Periodontists also receive extensive training in dental surgery (extractions), dental implants (including dentures), crown lengthening, and bone & gum grafts. Periodontal treatment can be used to arrest the disease, improve a patient’s mouth cosmetically, or both. Our periodontists can even eliminate cold sores safely and effectively with laser treatment.

The first stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. Patients affected by gingivitis may experience bleeding easily when brushing, flossing and when being probed during dental checkups. When left untreated, gingivitis can advance to periodontitis. Periodontitis occurs when untreated plaque and build-up spreads below the gum line and can affect tissue and even bone. Patients with periodontitis have extremely inflamed gums that can bleed to the touch, gum tissue that separates from the teeth or recedes, loss of teeth, or even bone loss.

How is Gum Disease Treated?

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling & root planing is a special type of dental cleaning for those with mild to moderate stages of periodontal disease. Special instruments are used to clean all surfaces of the teeth and under gums as well, to remove all harmful plaque and tartar.

Bone & Tissue Grafting

Bone grafting rebuilds and reshapes damaged bone and provides better tooth stabilization. Tissue grafting restores lost gum tissue that has been destroyed by periodontal disease and provides greater tooth protection.

dental implants

A dental implant is essentially an artificial tooth root. It provides a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The implant is placed into the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. After the implant is placed, an abutment is attached to the top to provide a location to secure the prosthesis.
